DR Congo and Guinea secure places at Africa Cup of Nations
Both teams earn hard-fought victories to qualify for the continental tournament
DR Congo edge out Gabon on penalties
DR Congo booked their place at the Africa Cup of Nations with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Gabon on Sunday. The match finished 1-1 after extra time, with DR Congo winning 5-4 on penalties. DR Congo took the lead through Dieumerci Mbokani in the 10th minute, but Gabon equalised through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 73rd minute. The match went to penalties, and DR Congo goalkeeper Ley Matampi saved two Gabon spot-kicks to secure the victory.
Guinea beat Malawi 1-0
Guinea also qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over Malawi on Sunday. The only goal of the game was scored by Mohamed Bayo in the 55th minute. Guinea held on to their lead to secure their place at the continental tournament.
DR Congo and Guinea join Ivory Coast and Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations
DR Congo and Guinea join Ivory Coast and Senegal as the four teams from West Africa who have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament will be held in Cameroon from 9 January to 6 February 2022.

DR Congo will face Senegal in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations on 10 January. Guinea will face Ivory Coast in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations on 11 January. The Africa Cup of Nations is the most prestigious football tournament in Africa. It is held every two years, and the winners qualify for the FIFA Confederations Cup.
