Chasing a target of 161, Punjab Kings openers Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan put on a record-breaking 138-run partnership. Bairstow was the aggressor, hitting 8 fours and 6 sixes in his 63-ball 125. Dhawan played the second fiddle, contributing 48 off 37 balls.
The partnership was broken in the 14th over when Bairstow was caught behind off Varun Chakravarthy. However, the damage had already been done, and Punjab Kings cruised to a comfortable six-wicket victory with 27 balls to spare.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/28. Andre Russell also bowled well, taking 1/29.
With this victory, Punjab Kings move to the top of the IPL 2024 points table. Kolkata Knight Riders remain in eighth place.
