Hugh Freeze Says Auburn’s Young Players ‘Just Love Playing for Auburn’
New Tigers coach effusive in his praise for his players following Saturday’s scrimmage
Hugh Freeze is a happy man these days. The new Auburn coach has been effusive in his praise for his players following Saturday’s scrimmage, saying that the young Tigers “just love playing for Auburn.”
“I’m so proud of these guys,” Freeze said. “They’ve worked so hard since we got here, and it’s starting to show. They’re playing with great effort and enthusiasm, and they’re really starting to understand our system.”
Freeze was particularly impressed with the play of his young players. “We’ve got a lot of young guys who are really starting to come into their own,” he said. “They’re making plays all over the field, and they’re really starting to understand what it takes to win at this level.”
One of the young players who stood out in the scrimmage was quarterback Robby Ashford. The redshirt freshman completed 10 of 15 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and he also rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.
"Robby is a very talented player," Freeze said. "He's got a strong arm, he's very athletic, and he's a very smart player. He's still learning our system, but he's made a lot of progress in a short amount of time."
Freeze also had praise for his defense, which held the offense to just 10 points in the scrimmage.
"Our defense is playing really well right now," Freeze said. "They're very physical, they're very athletic, and they're really starting to understand our scheme. I'm really excited about the potential of this defense."
Overall, Freeze was very pleased with what he saw from his team in the scrimmage.
"I'm really excited about the direction of this program," Freeze said. "We've got a lot of young talent, and we've got a great coaching staff. I believe that we can do something special here at Auburn."
Freeze’s comments are a good sign for the future of Auburn football
Freeze’s comments are a good sign for the future of Auburn football. The Tigers have a lot of young talent, and they’re starting to come together as a team.
If Freeze can continue to develop his young players and get them to play with the same effort and enthusiasm that they showed in the scrimmage, then Auburn could be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC West this season.
